Which investment firm do you think is the best to deal with for a private investor and not a business? I want to find someone to handle my investments...which "big name" firms do you suggest?

If you're a conservative investor that wants professional advise; JD Edwards would be my suggestion.
(BTW: Most people don't know how big they are. They are the largest retailer of the American Funds (More than Merrill, UBS etc.). They have more retail locations than any other broker. Their brokers are watched so that there's little to no "turn" in your account.

Check them out.

On the more "self service" brokers;
Charles Schwab, Inc.
Fidelity Brokerage.

Simple. The best investment firms are the ones that charge the lowest fees, thus allowing you to keep more of your money. Investors put up all the money and take on all the risk and are therefore entitled to most of the return.

Why go anywhere else?

The thing to be careful of is that many "advisors" will steer you into investment vehicles that provide fat commissions for them, not necessarily good return for you. The best way is to learn the basics of investing (you don't need a MBA!) and manage your own investments. You know your situation and objectives better than anyone.

What is your thinking behind using a "big name firm"? How about investing at a 'big name firm' and having you own personal private advisor to help you do it.
