Goes down the plug in the opposite direction to the water in the Northern Hemishpere? And do you know which way in each different Hemisphere?

Clockwise in the south, and widdershins in the north. It is called the coriolis effect and is determined by the rotation of the earth itself (which if one stands on the north pole can be seen to be "to the left" or counterclockwise--widdershins being an old English word for that, and if one stands on the south pole the rotation is to the right, or clockwise).

Clockwise in the Northern Hemisphere and anti clockwise in the Southern Hemisphere.

Here in the Northern Hemisphere we have special machines built into our sinks and toilets to force our water to spin clockwise. We also don't use the word "plug", we say "drain," or sometimes use the word of our ancestors, "spout," as in "the spider went up the water spout."

We also have to say counter-clockwise instead of anit-clockwise because that's one of the words outlawed by the oppressive government of the North that's run by "The Brotherhood."

I've always found this an interesting subject. A few posters are really getting into this in an over the head and drowning way.
