They have some bandwagon fans, just like any successful team in any sport. I wouldn't say most of them are bandwagons fans though.
As far as them being 9th in attendance prior to 2004, that is factually correct, but it's also a bit misleading. They had the smallest capacity in MLB at that time (now second smallest behind Oakland). If you have 8 or 10 or 12 thousand fewer tickets to sell per game than other teams, multiplied by 81 games, then of course you're going to sell fewer tickets over the course of the season.

Of all the teams in baseball you can accuse of having bandwagon fans, you chose a team with one of the most devoted fan bases in MLB history. I think you need to do a little research before making claims which are blatantly false. The people of New England have passionately lived and died with Red Sox for many many decades and to imply otherwise reveals ignorance.
As an example: When the Yankees won the World Series in 1996 their attendance increased by 32% from 1995. Does that mean that the Yankees fan base prior to 1996 still didn't love their team. Of course not. Ask any Yankee fan (one of which I am not). It's preposterous to even suggest such a thing.

I am SO sick of people making comments about bandwagoners. Any winning team has bandwagoners. The Yankees, Patriots, and now even the Indians. I have been a fan of the sox for decades starting with my first favorite Sox being Freddy Lynn. Winning teams breed fans. It's a way of life in sports. Accept it already.

jft_24 is on the money.
If you are from New York which is probable since you have the sinatra handle, get a life. New York had plenty of bandwagoners and still do, ie Lebron James.
Take a trip to Beantown and spend some quality time with real baseball fans they will teach you its a birthright and since the inception of baseball in this country we have created a nation of fans across the globe; hence sox nation.
Your Jealousy will consume you:).

this whole bandwagon thing, in my opinion, has gotten a little exaggerated
there were over 37,000 people at fenway last night. that's not bandwagon to me.
im from just south of boston, and my entire school, with a few yankee fan exceptions, are huge red sox fans. the majority of new england is a fan because that's their team. -CT, RI, etc.
and if " bandwagon" fans do like the team, who cares, cause it's a great team to like
the team is all goof balls

I was born and raised in and around the Boston area and still reside in the area, and as far as I'm concerned, the more bandwagoners, the more $$$ for the Red Sox which is fine with me.

That's gonna happen no matter what the team is. Look back at the d-backs when they won it. Now you can't tell me there are that many die-hard d-back fans out in arizona.
BTW, all you boston people, how's that clam chowder that they sell at the stadium???
