Yes, 'on the contrary' is opposite and 'on the other hand' is a consideration to weigh your point against.

On the contrary, there is a large difference.

i think there is,because there may be things that can make u change ur mind or that can completely change the way a situation looks,not because it is the very opposite of the initial statement(or whatever it is),but because it's another aspect of the same thing.Check out "Fiddler on the roof"-the movie
