Alternate in between ice and heat. Heat for 10 minutes then ice for 10 minutes. I have had many many injuries due to college sports and this is what has always helped me. It tricks the body into not swelling so much either. Good luck!

Ice it the first day and use heat the second day and after.
The cold is to stop the swelling, slow down your blood so that it can clot. Then the heat to get blood moving again to bring nutrients to heal.
But whatever you do man, seriously, take it easy coming back. I cost myself playing baseball because I came back too early from injury and never completely healed. Wait until you are completely healed, and then wait some more. It will keep you playing longer.

Sounds like ice is the better thing for it.
A cold compress (ice, a bag of frozen peas, etc.) is used to help reduced swelling to an injured area. By applying something cold to the area, you force the blood vessels in the area to contract and reduce blood flow, reducing the flow of blood and fluids which causes swelling into the damaged area.
Apply cold compress for 20 minutes and rest the injured leg.

First, rub injured area with green (rubbing) alcohol. Then make a cold ice pack and let it sit. The green alcohol is the best!

Cold therapy is the best way to help this injury at this time and a Polar Care 300 is an economical way to treat it during the sports season. http://www.dme-direct.com/polar-care-300-cold-therapy-breg-unit-system/
