I have just bought a Macbook and found out that it is password protected, but because I bought it second hand I have no discs with it. Is it possible to reset the password on the user without the discs?

It isn't possible without the disc. Take it back to the old owner, and ask him to log in, or take it to an Apple shop and they will be able to reset your password.

I assume you have bought a second hand Mac. You will need to know the Admin password to make any changes otherwise you need to re install the OS.
System Prefs>Accounts>Password

Macs don't have a BIOS or CMOS to reset.

Maybe the best way would be to get yourself a set of Install DVDs for your model Mac from Apple and use those to Erase and Install Mac OS X. Or bring it in to an Apple store let them Erase and Install OS X and you can then buy the discs from them. It might cost you for the service.

Bring it back to Apple with proof that you own the laptop and they'll reset it for a fee. You could also just ask the person you bought it off for the password.

Though I suspect you may have more trouble waiting for you.

Its time to take a ride to Apple Care once again. Without the original disc, no clue man.

Take it in to the Apple store and talk to them about your problem, they're really nice and will probably help you.
