there have been a few people on here that ask about how to get into modeling, and some people who have no idea what they're talking about are telling you that you need to train to be a model. that is 100% untrue. if you want to get into modeling you need to take a simple snap shot of your face, and a snap shot of your body with no makeup and your hair pulled back and send them to the legitimate agencies of your interests. You should never pay money for modeling school, because every modeling school out there is a scam, and they will not get you any jobs. if a modeling agency decides to take you on, THEY will teach you how to walk.

if you want more information it would be very wise to set up a free account at models.com, because it is full of people in the modeling industry who know what they're talking about, and agents look for new models on that site all the time

Thanks for posting, but just so you know many of us have tried to warn people about JRP, Barbizon, John Casablancas and any other entity that 'discovers' you at the mall or places ads in the paper, on tv or the radio. I've also posted links to modelingscams.com and ripoffreport.com. (FYI when I recommend training it's for those seeking to be an actor in addition to being a model, not to anyone solely wanting to model) Many people will continue to go to these places because the so called talent scouts have been trained to tell everyone that they have a great look and can earn so much money and success in the modeling world and entertainment business. The better the sales pitch, the more the poor gullible person buys into it. Then when they're told it will only cost them $2000 - $5000 and they are 1 of only 10 chosen (really everyone is offered the classes) they charge up every card they have and go for it only to find out too late that it really was a scam. The classes were terrible, they had to pay extra for mediocre at best photos, they had to pay even more for some convention that they 'promised' would have industry talent scouts at. It goes on and on.

I always point them to 2 of the top modeling agency sites (Ford and Elite) for physical requirements and submission guidelines which also state that pro photos and training are not necessary. It's not the end all be all, but it's a place for them to start and it's free. I have not personally checked out models.com and I would't recommend it unless I knew it to be legit.

So thanks for the info, hopefully some people will read it and not go to the latest scam audition and avoid paying thousands for useless 'training'

Regards,
Marianne

Absolutely true. You do not need to go to school in order to model. All you need is the right physical structure. Without that, you simply won't ever find work as a model, no matter how much money you spent "learning to be a model", or how flattering your expensive portfolio pictures are.

I cringe when I hear about kids throwing their money away on "modeling school". It's so unnecessary. They could all be saving that money toward something important. Like relocating to New York, where 95-98% of the actual modeling work is to be had.
