Why in the UK they? don't recommend cot bumpers

It is quite a broad recommendation, actually, not just UK. If a baby rolled onto side or wriggled up to the top and had it's face pressed against the bumper, airflow is reduced around bub's face and can potentially suffocate baby. In warmer weather they also can increase heat near bub's head (lack of air circulation). They - babies - are too young to be aware to move away, so this can be quite dangerous.

If people are serious about SIDS and make sure everything else is right (correct sleeping position, no smoking near baby or inside, etc etc), then I don't understand why this step towards safer sleeping isn't taken too. It seems that people are too conscious of what the cot looks like. I would rather have a baby that occasionally sleeps against cot rails or sometimes taps their head accidently on them than have a baby be compromised because of the bumper.

I am also certain that it only takes one case of a baby dying because of a cot bumper to cause this SIDS recommendation to be in place...

What you do is you put your baby at the bottom of the cot and cover him with a blanket. This does away with the need for cot bumpers as he is miles away from the top of the cot. Before with cot bumpers you would put babies at the top of the cot.

you ought to nevertheless make the carry cot useful. basically purchase between the pads that are made to bypass on the changeing table and use some velcro or something to maintain it contained in the carry cot, or maybe the strap that is for the toddler. as long as that is maintain, there is not any reason the toddler could now not nevertheless use it, and be comfortable. If now not putting the toddler without delay right into a cot would be large. sturdy success

You shouldn't have anything in the cot as this can cause your baby the be smothered. It looks pretty to you but it is not worth the risk.

The baby does not need it, try a mobile instead. I also use a sleeping bag which is easy and safest, stops them climbing out too.

Once I put my baby down for a nap and could hear gurgling she had wrapped herself round the blanket, had been sick in it and was on her way to heaven!!

They dont recommend them anywhere because of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome but I have had them on all three of my kids cots! As long as enough air can circulate its not a problem. I found it was better to have them than to have their legs stuck out the sides and start screaming or to be hitting their heads.

Babies can get stuck under them. I just used loads of soft toys around the cot to stop bumping. Make sure they are small though cos if you get a climber like mine, they pile em up and climb out!!!
