What type of mattress is best for a newborn baby.
Sprung or latex/foam?

I would go for the spring since foam or latex tends to form to the body and if your little one rolls over at night (this can happen by 3 months of age) then they could soffocate if the foam formed to their face.

I am a bargain shopper but there are 2 things i spend GOOD money on and thats mattresses for my kids and shoes for them also!
Half the day their growing bodies are spent on the mattress and the other half is on their feet so its really important.
My 2 babies (2 & 6mth) have very good quality spring mattresses.
Hope this helps....

Latex but I wouldn't put a totally newborn in a cot just yet - in a moses basket in the cot maybe! They need to feel snuggled still.
