Here's an excellent and easy recipe for Old Fashioned Egg Nog from my grandmother. If you want alcohol, all you have to do is add rum. 1qt. milk/half and half (equal parts of both) 4 eggs, separated 3/4 c. sugar 2 T. vanilla 1/2 t. cinnamon pinch of nutmeg -scald milk but do not boil -beat egg yolks and sugar until light -pour a small amt. of hot milk into egg mixture at a time and whisk while doing it, eventually adding it all, (has to be slow so you don't come out with scrambled eggs in your nog), and then put back on low heat for a couple of minutes and whisk. Grandma always cooks it because of the eggs. -remove from heat -beat egg whites until stiff and fold in, stiring gently -Garnish with dollops of whip cream

I just love egg nog. If it has alcohol in it, that is no problem; but it isn't necessary. I will just shake it up and pour it into a glass way to big for something that rich, creamy, and fattening, sprinkle nutmeg on top (or not), and I am in tastebud heaven.
