No I don't, for the same reason you just stated, besides they are not paying me or lowering the price of anything to do their work.

I use the self checkout lanes for getting my lunch break meals. The lines are short and move fast. Time is on our side when working, these help get through the long waiting lines of customers. They work and are convenient when purchasing a few items and in a hurry.

Well I don't hate them but I dislike them...
because If you need a price check you still have to go
look for someone to help you out.
And the workers are faster they know what they are doing
Also your right, Why take a job away?
I don't really see a use for them because sometimes
you still have to wait in line for one....At the pase of a regular
customer not an employee, and that could suck.
The only use i see for them is if You don't like
human contact and would rarther avoid others
and get your own things done
:)

I only use them if I don't want to stand in line. They are nice as an option, but I personally prefer face-to-face when doing business with a store. More stores are automating these processes, and making business less personal.
I don't know about them taking jobs away, but it does make sense. The investment in the technology may not be worth it down the road when the stores have nobody to use the technology because they can't afford to shop there because they don't have a job...

I have a few times. Want to learn to use them better and quicker. There's never anybody in them. The lanes with cashiers have long waiting lines at all times. They have very few cashiers and this is a Super-mart.

I really hate those self check out lanes.
It reminds me of how they started making us unload our food at the check out.
It is just a way for the stores to make more money.
i remember when they used to pump the gas in the car when my parents pulled up.
And I remember when they open the first self service gas stations, they were to save us $$.
Cant see how it has saved us anything.
Its like the bags of chips that are half full of air..

I love them, use them anywhere I can... screw incompetent cashiers.... they can't even add anymore:
My purchase comes to $2.42, I hand the cashier 3- dollar bills, she rings $3 into the cash register. It tells her to give me $.58 back. I then find change at the bottom of my purse, and give her $ .42.... You'll get that deer-in-headlights look as she starts to count on her fingers...
... at least the self-checkout would have spit out my change faster than I can search in my pocketbook.

Yeah, I have used them before but they can be annoying when you have to wait for cashier's assistance. If you have to stand and wait like that I would rather have a cashier to do it so I won't have to wait. I agree they are taking jobs away from other people.

Well, there are still people who check on them....but most of the ones i see, they don't correctly work all the time. Believe it or not, cashiers are trained, so people will not always get it right. I say, only use when in need.

i have used them before but i find them quite annoying. the one i went to, you have to do everything in your checkout in a certain order, and the dumb voice in the computer keeps tellin u u have something left on the counter then u take it off and it tells u item missing from counter. i get so agrivated! i started cussing it out one time in the quiet grocery store.
