Religious leaders assume, or are put into a position of power, from which they maintain their power by selecting a scapegoat. At the risk of being called a "blasphemer" - I am merely stating what has been proven as historically correct when I say the christians have found various scapegoats to call their "satan" as have the muslims.

The former would call atheists "heretics", the latter would call them "infidels." Both would find the hand of "satan" behind in the ideology of Marxism and Communism. The world is made up of more than just christians and muslims, yet both religions retain power in or through governments worldwide.

For centuries many have known what "a loving god would want" and that it is only through freedom of religion (choice) that we can avoid going to war over religion again. Today, one can see what are called "God's Warriors" - who are only too happy to use the political (and or force) system to take power away from secular socities, take away your choices, make the decisions for you, and ultimately take your lives.

This is nothing to do with religion. All religious texts say love thy neighbour and do good. However when men, like the Popes and others, have taken on a political role the war is inevitable. Just think of the number of wars that England fought against Spain, France and other Roman Catholic countries due to Papal encyclicals.

Religious war is about what man wants, not God. I think evryone of a religious mind needs to be just a little sceptical about all religious "leaders".
