neccessary? yes, she has to eat more to help the baby grow, and to keep up her energy to deal with all the emotions and the way her body is changing. Not all preggo's are gluttons. I didn't have any cravings or anything like that, and I didn't really eat thet much more than usual. It's different with every person.♥♥

No, a pregnant woman only needs an extra 200-300 calories a day (say, 1 extra sandwich). Additionally-while indulging in cravings occasionally is okay, overindulging in unhealthy foods can actually be harmful to the baby-leading to things like gestational diabetes.
But unfortunately there are a lot of women who use pregnancy as an excuse to lay around the house and eat whatever they want. Don't worry, they'll pay for it later when the baby is born and they realize that the majority of that 70 pounds they gained was NOT from the baby and was DEFINATELY not "water weight".

No, but every pregnancy is different. They say that the hormones running through your body is what makes you have cravings and i have also heard that if you are pregnant with a boy you tend to eat alot more than if you were pregnant with a girl (dont know how true it is). I was never a big eater before i got pregnant but i am now!! And if i dont eat i start feeling sick so i dont really have much of a choice. I have put on a fair bit of weight, 8 kilos and im only half way through my pregnancy!!

Glutton is a strong word. It's necessary for a pregnant woman to eat nutritiously and ENOUGH food to meet the needs that her body and her baby's developing body demand. It doesn't mean eat an entire pizza, most pregnant women just need 2800 calories (varies) and need to eat every couple of hours. Health is important, but it doesn't mean that starving oneself is healthy.

No, not a "glutton" but the appetite and cravings of a woman drastically increases once she becomes pregnant because she is "eating for two".
ALSO, where a woman once was inhibited and would say no to certain foods at certain times, she may well feel its okay to "let herself go" a bit once she's carrying a child.

No, and it's actually unhealthy she could develop diabetes which could make the baby more likely to develop diabetes later in life. Women need to eat a little more, but they do not need to become a glutton.

What? Ok pregnant women get cravings but really in order to support the baby she only needs like 300 additional calories a day and should eat a good healthy diet. 300 caloires by the way is a couple of granola bars.

In NO way. Actually the opposite is true. I have noticed that some pregnant women use that as an excuses to pig-out on junk food. I would guess most doctors don't suggest a steady diet of pizza, burgers, chips, soda, candy, etc.
Then after the pregnancy, it is always....oh I can't lose the weight, but they keep eating.
Then another friend's wife who is health conscious ate properly, exercised during pregnancy, then afterwords spent 6 weeks on strict diet with exercise to get back into shape.

No, it's sooo not necessary!! I've been pregnant three times and during each continued to eat regular sized meals... The only concession to my pregnancy was that I ate semi-healthy snacks in between meals...
