my mom is very much into crafts - especially making discarded items into new things. The problem is i don't have buckets of cash and because this seems to be the new "craze" discarded no longer means affordable. So any ideas? And no i am not going to dig through a garbage can - so need other ideas.

Have a wander through your local craft shop, since there are reasonably priced kits for things that are a bit of fun. Otherwise, I don't think a person can have too much yarn, for knitting, crocheting, weaving etc. You could make her a tabletweaving loom for a few dollars and get her set up with that. Email me if you want pictures of ours. http://members.shaw.ca/evethejust/tablet.html is my favourite link. It's got an easy to understand instructions page and a beautiful gallery of patterns.

You probably can't out-unique her because she is so creative. How about a gift certificate to a craft store so she can get more supplies for her hobby? Even though she is re-purposing, she can always use glues and paints and wire, and other things to help with it.
