4o9_Fret,
He may have been. I hardly doubt it however. Because he's been in "Show-Bizz" for so long now, that I do believe his desires were more focused on becoming an "Actor" than going to Nam...I can't be for sure about that. But it does seem to me that he did a movie about Veitnam. He and another famous actor were playing "Russian Roulette" with their guns in the movie, and one of them really blew his brains out. They were all just kidding around too. I dont think they thought they even had any bullets in their guns even. They were all drunk and sitting around this table, and decided to play this psychotic game. It was a bit of a challenge type of ego thing they were doing in this particular movie. But the whole movie was about being soldiers in Vietnam. I'm pretty sure he was one of the 4 "Big Names" in this particular movie. Made back in the "80s". Then again I get him confused alot with Angelina Jolie's dad. Unless Jon Voight is her dad. Is he? I dont remember now you've got me all confused!!HaHa!! There's 2 actors in Hollywood that I have confused them for one another for years!! He's one of them, and so is another guy or its Angelina Jolies dad. And they all played in alot of the same kinds of movies and even played in a movie together once. These two gentleman I always think look so much alike. Until they played in one movie together than I could see the difference in them alot. Otherwise apart they remind me of eachother quite a bit. Okay I'm done writing a book on you here. My apologies. Smile! You have a nice evening.

No - - - oddly enough at nearly age 30 he was 'too old' to be drafted and having already served a stint in the army reserves in 1960 was viewed as having done his duty as an American.. Voight 's career was heating up just as the Vietnam War was heating up and both went their seperate ways....

No. He was developing his career in NY. Around '69, he was recruited by his loyal friend, Dustin Hoffman, to co-star in Voit's 1st Film role in Midnight Cowboy, a classic film.
