100% been there done it- Learned things that changed my life.
I got a chemical burn on my eyes and was blinded, it was horrid. I slowly recoverd my sight over 6 weeks. I could navigate my house, much better than I thought.
I could even do some chores..... I was totally surprised by the whole experience. I just really missed Reading, TV and seeing my precious family. Even take care of the kids, sandwiches was the main food source, since it was too difficult to use the gas range, yet I did master microwave cooking some meals as well.
I was a massage therapist and my skills got better as did my trust in others. I told them to bring me exact cash for the services (not one person short changed me). My husband drow me to my office, kids to daycare and it was just fine..... I managed with ease and grace.
I actually continued to crochet and made a blanket during that event- no it had some flaws and that was okay to me. I still have it on my bed, its a physical reminder that even the simplest of things can be HUGE to the person whom "sees" the experience as a life lesson.
This little humorous experiment could be a life saver one day.
No joke.

Sounds like he didn't get any training from his previous home, either. Your dog is being dominant and literally pushing you around. You need to pick up a book or two and get your family in to a training class - even a PetSmart class at this point will help you, but since he's an adolescent male (not neutered, I imagine?) you need to set the family rules and boundaries right away. And get your butt outside and walk him! All dogs should have at least an hour's walk a day to release their energy, but labrador retrievers are working dogs and he should really have more than hour. He'll only get more neurotic and pushy if you don't exercise him properly. I highly suggest 'Puppies for Dummies' (I know he's not a puppy, but it has great tips on establishing routines and basic dog care) as well as Cesar Millan's 'Be the Pack Leader' (bring it on, Thumbs Down!). Give him something to do. Teach him the basic commands - Come, Sit, Stay, Down, Off, Leave It. Give him Kong toys that exercise his mind and jaws. Just keep him active, mentally and physically, and he won't be such a monster to live with. And be consistent in the rules! Good luck!

Yes, in the dark, with no lights and NO Eyeglasses I can! But that is because I am used to the path, and it is MY HOME that I OWN! (Try seeing anything as nearsighted as I am and you will find that you can follow a path to anywhere in your home withOUT your glasses on if you need to!)

No, I know I can't do that without even trying. I trip over stuff with my eyes open.

Yes. I do it often.
Definitely sucks when I pass out somewhere unfamiliar in the house (couch, floor, computer room), which happens.

I can't do it. My house is a little messy. I tripped over some towels in the hallway- or was it a cat?

No! Because my lovely wife changes the furniture around too much for me to get it figured out.
