she's been on nutramigen since she was about 2 months old. she's 11 months old now, and is still on it, but loves yogurt made with whole milk: the yo baby brand. so, if she tolerates this yogurt so well, would it be safe to say that i could try to switch her to milk based formula for these last two months?

My daughter had to take nutramigen too, she would throw up all the time. She was never diagnosed with being lactose intolerant though. Was your baby? If she was, I would ask your doctor about switching her formula. If not, then go ahead and try something else if you feel you should. Honestly I would probably just keep her on what she is on if it is working for her, since you are switching her to milk in another month or so anyway.

Being lactose intolerant and having a milk allergy may be two different things for your baby. Usually lactose intolerant folks can eat some cultured milk products like yogurt because the Acidophilus in yogurt breaks down the lactose sugar. A milk allergy is probably based on the proteins in cow's milk, not on being unable to break down the lactose sugar.

The quick and easy answer is that there is both milk protien and sugar (lactose) in both cow-milk based infant formula and in cow-milk based yogurt.

If she's able to tolerate milk-based yogurt without a problem, its (clinically speaking) completely possible for her to handle milk-based other substances.

However, because this is a human being, your child, (not a hypothetical case) all the advice in the world you can receive online, does not compare to getting a qualified opinion from a medical professional that knows your daughter and can properly assess her and her needs.
The value in getting a medical opinion from real-time healthcare provider outweighs the value in the opinion of any person online who does not know and cannot assess your daughter and her needs.
If you've been seeing a pediatrician or group of doctors for your daughter's whole life, then they know and understand her better than any person online does. They know her medical history, her problems, her symptoms that led her to be started on nutramigen since she was 2m. They'll know her current state of health and if she's healthy enough to handle being put on a different formula.

Her health and wellbeing is something you may not want to leave to the chance of getting good advice or bad advice from a stranger online..

Good luck.

You would defiantly need to speak to your pediatrician here.

It's pretty common for lactose intolerant people to find that they can handle things like yogurt & cheeses, but not milk.
Though I'm sure there are some people who can drink milk, but can't eat cheeses.
It really varies from person to person.

I would say wait until your baby is a few years older before you test it out to see if she can handle milk products.

You arent supposed to start them on any kind of real dairy products until they are 12 months old, but I gave my daughter yo baby when she was that old and she was lactose intolerant. I would definintally talk to your doctor before switching to a milk based formula before switching it.

Most of the times babies that are lactose intolerant will grow out of it by the time they are a year old.

purely toddler cows ought to be eating cows milk. do no longer drink or feed your toddler soy the two, which incorporates a protein that acts as estrogen and might block the two considered one of you from absorbing substantial food. Yogurt ought to be ok as long because it would not contain phenylalanine (aspartame) so verify the labels! attempt coconut milk, or you need to easily make almond milk at homestead.

best bet is to ask your pediatrician. yogurt is already partially digested milk due to the bacteria in it and is a safer milk product to give to babies and children with stomach complaints. if she is allergic, she could have a reaction, from mild to severe.... good luck!

ask your pedi for sure but they say that most milk sensitivity goes away sometime in the first year of life. Or the cultures on the yougurt may be helping her digest it easier.

I think that this is a question for the pediatrician. I wouldn't take that risk without some educated incite.
