ok, so we've all heard the argument about Phil Jackson winning so much because he had Jordan, Pippin, Kobe, and Shaq. But if you look at some of the other big winners, you could make similar arguments....Pat Riley has had Kareem, Magic, Worthy, Shaq, and Dwayne Wade. Popovich has Tim Duncan, who might be the best power forward in the history of the game (Ginobili and Parker aren't too shabby either). Who's won with the least amount of talent to work with?

The 1947-48 Baltimore Bullets. Not one person from that team is in the Hall of Fame except their player-coach Buddy Jeanette. He was inducted in the HoF in 1994 because someone decided that it was pathetic that a team was a champion without a HoFamer. So they decided he was the best of the bunch.

You want least amount of talent? Their #1 scorer Kleggie Hermsen averaged 12 points a game. His FG% was horrible at .277. He!!, their player with the best FG% was a paltry .348%. Those numbers are junior high level shooting not Championship shooting.

It has to be larry brown of the detroit pistons that took the 2004 nba title for the following reasons:

1. that season, no detroit piston player was an all star, none of them topped any of the major statistical categories (scoring, rebounding, assists, steals, blocks, etc.), none of them got any nba award (MVP, ROY, Defensive Player of the Year, Sixth Man Award, etc.), none of them made the All-NBA 1st Team, only Ben Wallare made the All-NBA 2nd Team, and again, none even made it to the All-NBA 3rd Team. Also, only Ben Ballace made it to the 2 All-NBA Defensive Teams. Even their rookies didn't make it to the two All-NBA Rookie Teams (eherm, Milicic).

2. That season, their leading scorer, Richard Hamilton, had a measly 17.6 ppg average.

3. None of them will most likely make it the NBA's Top 50 Players.

4. Only Ben Wallace and Chauncey Billups (sorry Rip) have a chance to be Hall of Famers...and they are not even sure!

In short, that season when the team won the championship, compared to any other championship team, they have the least individual talent especially on the offensive end. Although I personally don't like the Pistons, I have to admit, that team won not because of individual talent, but because they, as a team, played tough and together.

The Miami Heat had Dwayne Wade and a hurt Shaq in their last championship. You noticed Shaq was never the leading scorer nor was he even on the court at crunch time. Their next best player was Haslem.

Billy Cunningham's 1983 Philadelphia 76ers which featured two aging all-stars in the person of Moses Malone and Julius Erving, although already past their prime the two gave the Sixers the leadership it needs and swept the Lakers in the Finals. Another team is Larry Brown's Detroit team of 2004 nobody and I repeat NOBODY expected them to win the damn trophy against the powerhouse Laker team that featured Shaq, Kobe, Malone and Payton.... They were greatly dwarfed by the names mentioned but never let that dwindle their quest for the gold.

Hope this helps.

I would say the coach of the 1979 Sonics is a good candidate. The NBA was at a lowpoint in talent then.
