I think men make better pets personally.

I have both male and female cats and I've had more male pets over the years but they both seem to be great and lovable so it doesn't matter to me.

I've had better luck with female pets.

Male ones have issues with...well u know...

And also I once owned a male Persian cat when I was single that would get very jealous when I would bring home my boyfriend or a date for a nightcap. He would show his jealously by defecating on the floor by the toilet or the front door. Somewhere he knew the guy would be walking to (or stepping into). He was very territorial and it was just awful how he showed it. I eventually had to give him to someone else, even though it was a difficult choice.

I've had both, so I'd prefer female pets because they're more gentle, though I won't mind male pets.

Both have merits. My male cat lays around does very little during the day. My female cat spends a lot of time running around the house chasing things and tearing things up.

Male cats - I've had 2 female cats in the past and no matter how clean the litter box was they loved to use the carpet instead

Female dogs - more mellow

All my pets are male, so I guess that's what I must prefer.

as far as cats go (the only pet I've had), I prefer males. they are more outgoing and less aloof.

I currently have one male and one female (cat)... my male is very friendly, snuggly and playful. my female cat is very playful with her mate, but does not like to be held... she will, however, curl up onto my lap when it is on her own schedule.
