I think that the classic rock music was at its prime in and around 1974, I believe the glory years of classic rock is from 1968 to 1975 and it went downhill after that, I love the early/mid 1970s prog rock bands that came from all around the world.

Nothing's perfect, but what about 1967?

Among the albums released:

The Who: The Who Sell Out

The Beatles: Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band

Pink Floyd's Debut: The Piper at the Gates of Dawn

Cream: Disraeli Gears

Jimi Hendrix's Debut: Are You Experienced

Jefferson Airplane: Surrealistic Pillow

The Doors's Debut: The Doors

The Door: Strange Days

The Velvet Underground: The Velvet Underground and Nico

Rolling Stones: Between the Buttons

Just a number of bands that released highly acclaimed albums in 1967.

We also have several influential bands' starting, like the Stooges. Influential magazine Rolling Stone begins. Procol Harum begins. Many things happened.

Oh, and Kurt Cobain, the guy who with a little help from two other guys, shifted rock music towards alternative rock, was born. Not that that's particularly important though.

Where did you hear that? Anyway, I'd say that it's probably wrong because The Beatles were already broke up in 1974. If rock music was perfected, it was perfected by The Beatles.

the 60's and 70's in my opinion were rocks defining decades, but I wouldnt choose 1974 in particular. Besides, music is all about individual taste, so what you like may not jive with what I like.

If 1974 was the year that Karl Douglas' "Kung Fu Fighting" came out, then I would definitely have to say "Yes".

Well...Considering what followed in the "80's and "90's, I'd say the "60's and "70's are the closest we will get to rock perfection.

No. Perfection is a journey, not a destination. And every year is a good year if you're willing to look.
