Studies show that about 2/3 of male homosexuals have had sexual intercourse with a woman, but prefer to perform sex on other men. Are these men genetically bisexual? If so, are only a minority of homosexuals genetically homosexual?

While we're on the topic, which other kinds of kinky sex are genetically predetermined--incest, sado-masochism, bestiality, fetishism, voyeurism, exhibitionism, transvestism? Is there any freedom to choose one's own brand of turn-on?

typocinnamongrl, you are making a false inference about my views. Like you, I'm a skeptic about genetic predestination, and a believer in free will.

I believe you are misinformed. There are no studies that have concluded ANY proof that sexuality is genetically determined. In fact the entire idea is ludacris. Our DNA makes up things such as eye color skin tone facial features etcetera.... A persons sexuality and personality however is a blank slate when they are born. Such things are determined by their surroundings and environment rather than by genetics.

EDIT
Im sorry I assumed your opinion on the matter. Thats just how it came across to me. It seems many others made this assumption as well.

A couple of side comments.

The argument that homosexuality must be a choice because no one would choose to be discriminated against, etc. is a false argument. Do people choose to be drug addicts, alcoholics, and so on? Nor does the fact that people who are in a homosexual lifestyle can't change (or at least almost never really change) proof that it is genetic.

The correct scientific answer to this question is: "We don't know at this time how much our genes predispose one to homosexuality."

The motivation for many to BELIEVE that homosexuality is genetically determined is that this would greatly strengthen arguments for tolerance and acceptance. Arguments for tolerance can be made without making unsubstantiated scientific claims for genetic responsibility for homosexuality.

There is no conclusive proof that homosexuality is the end result of genetics only.

There are many theories about sexual orientation. One is that bisexuality is the actual default orientation and that heterosexuality and homosexuality are learned.

My belief is that our sexual orientation is probably caused by an interaction of both biology + social forces, not biology alone. (And biology, by the way, involves more than our genes.)

The other forms of behavior you listed are not sexual orientations. I believe most, if not all of these are learned.

I'm always amused and a little irritated by those of you who insist that homosexuality is entirely a matter of choice or the "fault" of our parents.
If human sexuality was a choice then it must have been given to everyone. So when did you make the choice? Was it when your hormones started raging? Or did you try it and find you didn't like it?
Who in the world would choose to be homosexual in a world where people, like some of you, hate and condemn us? Where parents and families reject their children and treat them as dead? Where lynchings, beatings and other physical abuse is condoned and even encouraged often by righteous Christians? Where the government refuses to protect us with hate crimes legislation?
No, I didn't choose to be homosexual just like none of you chose to be heterosexual. But when I made peace with God and myself I came to realize that being gay was a gift from God and that I, like you, was meant to live my life in loving caring relationships. I have also learned (unlike some of you) that I am in no position to sit in judgment of another's adult and consensual sexual interests.

when was it determined that homosexuality was genetic? maybe you are thinking epigenetic? do you have a source for your claim? I think sexuality is far more complicated than what's in your genes... it has to do with experiences and a lot I think fate /god/karma/whatever. I think its a personal experience... not necessarily a scientific question.

When did definitive genetic evidence present itself? And can you site the specific study, organization, or researcher by name?

There are sets of identical twins (with exact DNA) where one twin is gay and one is not. So I don't know how it can be proved that it is genetic with such unexplainable variable or anomalies.

I believe it's all nurture (or lack thereof), and never nature. The freedom is all yours. Choose wisely.
