I am exacty 37 weeks today, and I found out at my OB appt. that I'm not dilated or effaced yet. I expected to hear at least 2 cm. Anyone else dilate in the last 3 weeks, or not at all and needed medical intervention? Does this mean that I could go past my due date and require intervention?

I just went to my appointment at 38 weeks and I was only 1 cm dilated and 50% effaced. It was alarming because most of the questions that I read, women who are at this point in pregnancy are at least 2 cm dilated and 60% effaced. So, I know exactly how you feel. I do not exactly want intervention either, I definitely do not want to be induced or have a c-section. But, I really think that in the end all that will matter is getting the baby here as healthy as possible. From what I hear, some women dilate fast, sometimes right at the end. All that we can really do is wait for the next appointment and see what happens from there...luckily, going once a week at this point. Good luck and I am hoping the best for you!

Not sure how much my experience will help you, but I didn't dilate until 38-39 weeks, and by 40 weeks/2 days I was only 2cm dilated.
I never lost my plug and never had a single contraction, fake or real. It turned out my baby was breeched anyways, so I would up having a c-section in the end.
I don't know if I never started labor due to the baby's position, or if it was simply that he was taking his sweet time.
Good luck... I'm sure things will get moving when the time is right. Remember, your due date is only an estimate. You're not actually late until after week 42. I know it seems like time is crawling, but it WILL be over soon. :)

I agree with the other lady. At least you know if you are dialated at all, I will be 37 weeks pregnant on Thursday and where I go they do not check you until 39 weeks unless they have a "lagit" reason to, so its frusterating being in the dark about it. I would not be to worried about not being dialated at all, Everybody is different and even though these last weeks seem to go bye slow your little baby will be here soon. Best of Luck.

No not at all, I wasnt dialated until 39 weeks. I went to the doctor on a friday morning and dialated at a 2, then my son was born that following monday morning. Its just different for everyone. Some women go weeks to a month dialated and some go a few days. There is no way of really telling. Good Luck and Best Wishes!!

I wouldn't worry about it at all. I don't generally dilate until I go into labour and then can go from 0-10cm in a few hours! Everyone is different as is every pregnancy each woman has. I am sure you won't need medical intervention as our bodies know what to do and when to do it. Don't stress yourself unnecessarily! Best of luck to you!

It's just not time, that's all. You could go into labor anytime. Not being dilated at 37 weeks is no cause for concern and doesn't mean you will go over your date. The more time the baby spends in the womb, the more developed it will be. They don't worry about it being harmful or bad until you are 42 weeks and beyond. That is why they say full term is 37-42 weeks.

Dont worry. The day before I had my daughter, I had my OB appt. and I was 0cm dilated, then next morning when I started getting contractions that I left 4 the hospital I was 2 cm dilated.

You shouldn't worry about anything. I went 2 weeks overdue with my first and I woke up one morning with what I thought was contractions, well luckily I had an appointment that day and my doc checked my cervix and I was not dialted or thinned out! So they sent me home and even scheduled inducement! I was so happy that I was going to be having her...FINALLY. Well, 5:00 that night, contractions hit hard! By 2:40 the next morning I had my little girl. Keep in mind 15 hours before I had her, I was not dialated or thinned out!

They didn't check to see how dilated I was until I was 40 weeks and 6 days and I was 2cm. They induced me 41 weeks and 4 days and I was still 2cm dilated. Anything could happen from here. My Dr thought that 6things would have happened on their own but no such luck.

Every one is different. The best thing to do is relax. Things will happen the way they were meant to. All of that could change in a matter of just a day. Besides your due date could be off and that would change how far you are.
Just sit back and take a breather while you can. Before you know it that baby will be 5 and starting kindergarten.
