Actually: here to help and Jerry are right!
Why Mitt Romney thinks he is like Reagan is beyond me! Nothing could be further from the truth!
Please see definition of Neocon.
wiki/Neoconservatism
Also when we are in times or building the military or war we often do have to spend money. Both President Reagan and Bush 41 and 43 have balance budget plans.
It was Rudy who nixed the line item veto from our 42 President.
If it affects your position as to who gets 10 points, I will be supporting the Republican Ticket which will not include Ron Paul as he is a Libertarian.
I don't believe it will Lead with Rudy or Mitt either.
Thanks for asking!

Well, I Uh... I don't remember. (sorry). True conservatism has to be broken down into two components, IMO. That's social conservatism and feduciary conservatism. I can't separate the two for personal reasons, but as I recall, Reagan did use the phrase "God bless", which vaguely resembles a small portion of social conservatism. As far as feduciary, it's harder to tell, since the president seems to me to be basically a figurehead.
I may be wrong with that, but my age prohibits me remembering WWII, when I'm told the presidency actually meant something. On that basis, he served as a figurehead of "the good old days", (I know, he was a Dem then), where people or that age remember being more conservative. By that token, he served as a rallying point for conservatives - and therefore helped their cause. He didn't offend many of them, like Romney will/does - or Kennedy did. I can't address any of the examples you cite above, since your point is valid, but he DID help conservatives - and they like remembering that, which helps their cause none the less.

Reagan marked the end of Goldwater conservatism (small government and fiscally conservative) and the beginning of 'social conservative'. Reagan sold out the true conservatives of the Republican Party in exchange for a new base, the religious coalitions. Those coalitions had helped put Carter in the White House, but felt betrayed when Carter would not take up (bow down) their agenda.
The 'golden era' of Reagan was no more than a 'gold fleece' job. It was also Reagan that did away with Carter's Energy Plan designed to get us off OPEC dependency, symbolized by a photo op of him on the White House roof for the removal of the solar panels.

There are those here which will make accusations reflecting returned on Reagan. He took over for the duration of a recession brought about via the autumn out of Vietnam, Watergate and a vulnerable financial coverage. interior the 8 years, unemployment dropped, tax sales larger and corporation thrived. Reagan basically proposed the financial coverage, yet a Democrat Congress observed his lead and incredibly better the financial gadget. inspite of the better spending via Congress, the financial gadget left the recession in the back of and handed directly to the Bush and Clinton years a wholesome financial gadget. Bush a million and Clinton signed into regulation the two best tax will develop in background and however the financial gadget held enterprise for the main of Clinton's 2nd term. His distant places coverage drove the Democrats nuts, he dealt with distant places coverage with an iron fist on a similar time as coping with the leaders with youngster gloves. A grasp at communications, he develop into understood via all of us, he under no circumstances talked right down to any team, yet communicated with admire. He under no circumstances blamed others for the unfavourable financial gadget he gained and he under no circumstances apologized for his united states to despots. He made us proud to be American

Anyone who adopted conservative beliefs exemplified by the Reagan Presidency. Those beliefs would include some standard conservative fare (strong military, christianity, low texes, etc), but also some that were slightly unconventional, such as a willingness to run a deficit, policies based on neo-classical economic thought, and acceptance of socialist institutions from the Depression era, like Social Security.
In fact, many 'Reagan Republicans' started out, like Regan himself, as 'FDR Democrats.'

a Reagan conservative, is a big military neocon.
they take a right-wing approach to any issue involving America, and a left approach to any issue involving everyone else.
Also, a reagan neocon, is a con that calls terrorists freedom fighters, and supplies them with weapons, then blames it on liberals that they are a problem.
They are the kind that makes claims that Reagan fixed the economy, when lower gas prices was probably one of the biggest contributing factors of a better economy.
They are the ones who claim that deregulation of trade that forces out businesses to compete with the low wage paying companies of a communists country is "fair trade", not realizing a communist government makes up the loss in income making it impossible for our companies to compete, but ignores Reagans involvement in that.
They are also the ones that claim that Reagan was worked a miracle with the economy, mnaking it so great, while all the savings and loans went belly up.
in other words, a typical neocon that ignores fact.
notice how they always fight harder for everyone else's freedom, and completely kneel for anything a so-called republican does?

He redefined the conservative, to include the Religious Right Wing.
He was not a fiscal conservative. He wasted a lot of money during his 8 years on the Star Wars program.
The dollar was also very weak during his last 4 years in office.

Something that really sticks out in my mind is the trickle down theory. Disregarding the poor for the sake of big business..
Um, misrepresenting the events that lead up to the disclosure of his administrations involvement in the Iran-Contra Affair isn't my idea of honesty..
R.W.R. (pulling a John Kerry): I lied about the arms deal, before I told the truth about it..
If these are the traits of a real conservative - I PASS!!!

A "Reagan conservative" is someone who raids Social Security and leaves an IOU in place of the money stolen. They also believe catsup is a vegetable, and believe in increasing the National Debt.
