I have had low back pain ever since I had my son 13 months ago. It hurts 90% of the day and about 40% of the day it is scale 10 pain. I am only 26 years old. My dr just gives me pain med and tells me to go see a chiropractor or a physical therapist. I seen a therapist and got a 400$ bill for 1 day I never went back. I seen a chiropractor about 5 times and my pain was at a scale 10 all day long. So I stopped. One dr did 1 xray and seen nothing. They are now starting to treat me like a druggy and wont give me enough pain meds to get thru the month. What can I do???? The pain is in the lower back almost to the tailbone. It hurts mostly when standing in one spot or sitting to long. Upon waking it hurts so bad I cry for about 1 hour and walk all hunched over. After about 10 minutes of pain it moves to my hips and in the buttock area all over. It does not go down my legs. When this first started I felt numb in my finger tips. Every now and then I feel a sharp pain when I twist.

I have bought everything over the counter from asprin to tylonol to advil. Nothing works. The dr has me on Vicoden. I take 1/2, 4 times a day. Even that don't get me thru my pain. It just makes it a little less uncomfortable. I can't afford to see 20 dr's before getting an answer. I can barley make may bills each month.

First ditch the old doctor that was just giving you pain meds, you need to see an orthopedic surgeon. When you go to the ortho don't just be clear about your pain but also be clear about your goals as well. Tell them that you want to find out what this is not just treat the pain. You don't want to use narcotics if you don't have to. If you have to then you want to rotate them so you can decrease your dependency. You will have to push but educate your self on the lower back and hip area. Know what kind of pain you are dealing with bone, tendon, muscle, or nerve. Most importantly don't except "I don't know" as an answer. Asked to be refereed to another doctor that specializes in the area. Make sure that when you go to the doctor you have all of the medical info that has been done already, including the x-ray. As far as treatment goes you need a MRI done. Since this started after the baby then start looking for answers in the pregnancy world. I am sure that someone has gone through this before.
A little over a year ago started to have back pain in the SIJ area for no reason. I got so bad that I could not work. For 7 months, I was bounced around from doctor to doctor. Two of them told me that there was nothing they could do and I was just going to have to live with the pain, but I was insistent. I knew there was a reason and I did not want to be on pain pills for the rest of my life. Finally, I got referred to a doctor that Diagnosed me with SIJ arthrosis. I had a SIJ fusion and now I am back at work. When I asked the doctor why it took over seven months to diagnosis me, he said that most people he sees have been in pain for six years. Seven months was a fast diagnosis time for my problem and it was solely because I was so insistent with my doctors. So don't give up. Now I still have a little pain some times but I can controle it with advil, not demerol.
- I know that doctor's bill are expresive, however even medicaid will pay for the type of discomfort you are in. You may need a referal by your regular doctor first. I know that this sound s like a lot to do and it is even worse when you can barely walk. However the only way you are going to get rid of this pain is to get it diagnosed and fixed. First you need an MRI, I cna't believe that the first doctor had not ordered it yet and just gave you pain meds. As far as the pain meds go there are some different drugs that are none narcotic if what you are experiencing is nerve pain. They are called Lyrica and Nuerotin. If you stay on the narcotics ask your doctor to rotate the drugs so that you can decrease your dependence. Again the only way that the pain is going to go away is to get it fixed. That means you need to get Diagnosed first and that may mean seeing a few different doctors. Other wise you will become addicted to the drugs and still have back pain. If you have no insurance and little money then talk to a social worker or a hospital and see where you can go for free treatment. fi you have insurance then amke sure you read what you are covered for and how you need to go about getting help.
Also it could be the SI joint or the SI nerve that is causeing the pain. Look for orthopedics that specialize in that area. Some spine doctors don't deal with SI problems because they don't consider the SI joint part of the back.

Whatever the cause of your back pain it should show up on an MRI. My back pain did'nt and the Pain managment doctor said he could'nt see anything on all the test i had done so there for there is no pain. I said tell the pain that and my family Doctor dont like eprcribeing enough pain meds even for a month so i am now seeing a Chiropractor and haveing my spine streached.
My pain is different from yours and i do feel the cause of your problem would be revealed with haveing an MRI done.
Good luck

It sounds like a herniated disc ... a have two and the symptoms are almost the same, you should ask for a MRI that's how I was diagnosed, for treatment I did a lot of physical therapy each helped a lot but still I have pain everyday but not as strong as it was. there was a time that surgery was considered but I dismissed that
