i want to change my name, where do i start?

i live in california and i want to get my name change but i don't know where to start. who should i go to? and how much does it cost? and how long does it take?
can i also change both my first name and last name?

Check at the court house. It shouldn't cost much but you need to have a reason that isn't to defraud your creditors.
My attorney offered to change my name free since he was doing my divorce and lots of people change names then either back to maiden or to something else.
Many just stop using their first name and go with another like Roberts who want to be Bobs or Alonzos that want to be Al. They aren't trying to trick people just changing what they are called, usually with a job change.
