A literbike is a great choice for beginners, as long as they have a suicidal death wish.
Literbikes are built to have the best all around performance. That means handling as well as acceleration. The stock tire is a 190. A bike with a narrower rear tire will handle better then a wider tire. Motorcycles turn differently then cars. Motorcycle lean over, cars don't. It takes more time and effort to shift a bike from one side to the other on a wide tire.
A 240 section tire is a great choice for a drag bike. Liter bikes are not good choices for drag bikes, because they're designed to be fast and handle. If you need to have a drag bike with a 240 section tire because you're such a macho manly man with a fragile ego, get a Hayabusa or ZXR1400, and put on an extended rear swingarm. You'll kill in the straights, but get dusted by 250's in the turns.
You will be known as the ultimate squid. Captain Calamari is what they'll call you. You could get a vest with a big tetacle patch on the back.
Or, you could just acknowledge that you don't have enough experience to make an informed decision about this, and get a bike more suitable for a beginner. Nobody is going to look down on you for riding around on an '84 CB750 until you know what you're doing. But at your wake, everybody's going to be talking about how stupid you were to get an R1 with no experience.

Dont worry about being 6'5, if you were 6'10 then I would worry, but the other guys are right as well, if you are fit and flexible enough you should be fine. Buy yourself an aftermaret scren with a bit more height for protection so you aren't trying to fit your noggin in behind one of the standard one's!
As for the rear tyre, I dont think they come in a 240 rear oon the superbikes due to the swingarm dimensions and the fact that it will slow down your steering immensly!
I think standard, you are looking at a 190 rear for any of the 1 litre bikes. I think you can go to a 200 but why would you risk handling for a fat rear!!
Anyway, go and test ride a few, thats the best fun, shopping for a brand new machine, oh yeah!!

look .the problem you will have ( if any ) is the crouch position . I am not as tall as you maybe 6 feet , but your hands will feel the pressure first and get numb , due to the brake force of the front wheel , its like swimming , you will have to arch your back , the longest I have ridden is for 5 hours , and then I get a bad pain in the back of my head , ( I have an R1) ...I found the gears the most difficult aspect of riding it . they dont advise riding the R1 with any thing bigger than the 195 .I have a 200 ..........they say it effects the handling on corners , I dont think a 240 would fit on my 2002 R1....... it does 100 klm's per hour in first gear , maybe a little more if you want to see the engine over rev light come on .........

If it's your first bike...I can only recommend against getting a sportbike....with that said, however, I just purchased a Triumph Daytona 650 as my first bike, and I am also 6' 5". The bike is the best fit for me of any sportbike I've EVER ridden or even sat on...600cc, 750, 1000....doesn't matter....they're not usually made for taller individuals. You can fit on most, it just won't be a comfortable ride. If you can, go with something like a NInja 500, or a Suzuki GS500....perfect bikes because of their sport look, but comfort and ease of use as well

wow...so many things wrong with this question.
i am assuming this is your first bike because you would probably have ridden a sportbike if you have been riding for a while. if that is the case, both of those bikes are bad news for a newbie.
also, shoe-horning a 240 section rear tire on gixxer thou would have very negative consequences in the handling department.
don't do it.

Hey, yeah, newbie- go for the Gixxer Thou! I think that the DMV test for a new rider on a literbike involves playing Russian Roulette with a semi-auto pistol, since that's about as long as you'll last on a 1000cc bike anyway.
Do you also love the look of skin grafts? How about the ceiling of a care facility as the nurse wipes your paralyzed butt forever? Maybe the inside of a coffin? One with a 240 fat handle?
You'll get the right answer from others here (i.e. do NOT get a literbike), but I'm gonna give you hell for asking the same tired question without researching first.

hell if you wanna waste all that money to make it a cuiser, get a zx10 or 12r depends how big you want it,
get it in all blck and black chrome, then throw on a black chrome extended swingarma dn a 240 rear with black chrom/ brushed nickel finnish, and mabey a matching wheel on the front. dont forget to lower it and get airride shocks so you can raise and lower whenever you want. a small nos bottle attached to the swingarm would be bad, get a powercommander and one of those clutchless upshifters. and you will be set. more a a drag bike really,

I'm 6'2", and a lot of sport bikes feel a bit cramped to me. But the surest way to tell if it feels cramped to you is to visit a showroom and sit on one for a while, see what cramps up. You might be a better fit on an FZ, VFR, or SV than the all out sport bikes. Or you can put bar risers on it - that's how I made my GS500F fit me better.

Shaquelle O' Neil rides sportsbikes (modified Hayabusa), as does Micheal Jordan (and he rides cramped Ducatis, with NO adjustments to the ergonomics). So you can probably ride any bike you want to...
