We were assigned cause and effect chart.

The middle is the event which is "Odysseus is gone". Then there is 3 causes on the catagory of "Why is he gone?" And three effects on "What effect does his presence have?"

For the effects i got, 1.The suitors have taken over the palace. blah blah
2. Telemachus and mother are depressed, have no faith in Odysseus coming home blah blah

3. Gods (Athena and Zeus) come to help telemachus and encourage him to look for his dad.

What would i put in the cause, all i can think of is Odysseus went away to troy.

Woould this be right? What else would i put?

i don't see it like you do. at all.
the cause?
i see it as a deeper meaning - there is a universal theme of traveling in order to find oneself. HE HAD TO GO.
the movie says they all went to die gloriously (that was a big deal in ancient times).
i believe odysseus went into a discovery quest, a trip full of adventures, a tough road in the seek of knowledge.

The story is that Odysseus went to Troy and helped the Greeks and he was away for ten years, after the battle he didn't offer a proper sacrifice to the gods and so he was punished by being forced to wander another ten years. But alls well that ends well, when he returned to Ithaca in time to protect his wife and kingdom from those blow-hards.He really smoked them good! Yay! : )

The cause was that odysseus though he won troy with out the help of any of the gods. Posiden the ocean god helped him by putting the seaserpant and killing the one man. so that the peeps of troy would take the bait of the horse. so posiden cursed him and said that he would drift in the sea forever for takin all the credit. i nkow this movie love it.

Actually.....Penelope did have faith that her husband would return. Why do you think she delayed the suitors by using the weaving of the burial shroud. She is the archetype of a faithful and dedicated wife.

He is gone due to:
War At Troy
Circe
Calypso
