If raw performance is what you want get the Evo or even better the STI.However, if you want a roomier car, go with the MS6. The MS6 is also more reliable than the Evo. I used to own an Evo and they aren't that reliable. Then again, what do you expect when you take a race car and make it street legal. The mpg is horrible on the Evo and it's flat out gutless if you shift before the boost kicks in. Heck Ralliart Lancers can run circles around you without the boost engaged. If you want reliability and Evo- like performance, go with the STI or even the MS3. Personally, I'd take the MS6. While it's not as fast as an Evo, it will be used as a daily driver more than a track car. That's where the MS6 beats the Evo and STI. The Evo actually is more on par with the Mazda 3. than a 6 platform. The 6 is more on par with the Galant in size. For the money, I'd still get the MS6.

LOL of course Mitsu EVO VIII, First the performance is way higher then the speed 6, and EVO is AWD meaning great stability and handeling. Speed 6 is cheaper solution to people who like sport cars but don't have the money for a Evolution car.
Other then that, the Evo VIII has way more tune-resistance then the Speed 6 which in various cases had engine blow-ups.
Even though I love Mazda the most(I'm RX7 FD3S owned) i gotta go with Mitsubishi on this one. Speed 6 is close to failure, just like the RX-8.
If you want Mazda, you can wait for the new RX-7 FE3S which would come out around 2009 or early 2008. :D lol good luck.

If you look at the 2008 models they are both turbocharged 4 cyl. AWD. it looks like mazda is trying to catch up to the evo. while the numbers are pretty respectable compared to the evo (somthing like 270hp and 295 lb-ft) I would still go with the evo, it has better performance numbers and is not much more as far as price goes. Also is has been around longer (as a tubo I4) and they have had more time to work out the kinks.

Mazda 6 isn't a bad car really to drive, but I would choose the lancer any day over the mazda 6.

Evo 8!!!!!!!
No question at all, the speed6 is great and everything, but if you want a real AWD performance beast, the Evo is your car.
Also suggest checking out the WRX STi, almost identical in specs to the Evo.

One of my considerations is how often will it be in the shop.
Given the reliability record from Consumers Reports, I have to go with the Mazda.
Mitsubushi has not set a record for dependability and seems to be high on the recall lists. They have produced some of the worse cars for safety and dependability.

unless you have an endless pockets for pay for the gas..... go for the evo
but i preffer a daily car with good mpg, looks sporty, good sound and a decent hp220 v6
the cars with turbo need some special cares like, you can shut down the car so fast because the temp of the turbo have to be low for that, if not you will damage the turbo, another thing is you can start the car and go, it could damage your turbo too
always need premium gas with turbo engines, if for some reason the car damage the fuel pump....and ran the car with no fuel thats = to complete engine rebuild
if you fail to many times the engine oil it could cause the seals from the turbo get bads and it can smoke like hell
