No, it's not a good idea to keep these together. As I mentioned in your other question, the fish would be more likely to harm your axolotl by trying to eat its gill filaments. And although they are both coldwater animals, there are differences in their habitat requirements as far as the upper level of their temperatre tolerance and need for dissolved oxygen.

As far as what you should have in the axolotl tank, you can have either a bare bottom or gravel, but they do need a place to hide. And since they're light and temperature sensitive, you shouldn't use a light on their tank, or just a very dim one. Fluorescent lights would be preferable, so they won't produce any heat to warm the water. You need to keep the temperature as low as possible, preferably 65oF or lower.

They don't need any spots to climb or get out of the water. If they want, they'll sometimes swim up to gulp air, or float just below the water's surface, but these are totally aquatic.

Buy Mexican Walking Fish

axolotls (mexican walking fish) tend to eat any slow swimming small goldfish. if the goldfish are quite large then you may not have a problem.. they are ambush predators and will suck up and fish small enough that swims by...so be careful. i probably wouldnt put them together personally, but if you do, be careful.

axolotls (the actual name for mexican walking fish) have gills, and so they do not need any high points, they do not breathe air like we do or like a frog would, even though they are amphibians like frogs and not actually fish at all.
although they would appreciate something to hide behind or under.

do some research before you buy, for the benefit of the animals.
