Object of Its Ire, li'l mama: I can understand if you're annoyed, but I cannot sabotage a quote

ms.sophisticate: This quote seems to belong to James Grover Thurber, American humorist and cartoonist. He also said: "If I have sometimes seemed to make fun of a woman, I assure you it has only been for the purpose of egging her on." So, I don't know if there is really "wisdom" (archaic or not) in his words.

Yes, I agree with the quote - people who listen more and talk less tend to be wiser, men or women... They tend to think before they speak, something that separates the wise from the not so wise. Knowing means assessing and contemplating a thing before sharing an opinion on it.

Knowing is a relative term with certain crowds though. Some think they "know" something just because they watched the six o'clock news....

Aside from the evident gender and physical differences (men are stronger than women), both men and women are on an equal playing field.

Men have a strong salvo of social mores on their side; women sometimes manage around this with sly fem ploys.

Nonetheless--both sexes are on equal ground.

It must be a woman who said this. and i believe her, " Women know less ". and there is always a Man to keep explaining things until a woman understands.:) It's a tough job, But that's our destiny.

lol. I have no idea why would you quote something without giving a name of an author of this piece of archaic wisdom. Could it be that you are simply sharing your own thoughts? In that case, I regret to inform you that in 21st century most women are college educated, well traveled and very well professionally employed. I personally hold two PhDs, a few patents and a large international company to my credit. I am also not the only female in the world who can say that. So, if we seem to be wise to you, it is because we happen to study, see and work hard during the times when all you were doing is partying with your male friends.

Back in Thurber's day, that was probably generally true due to the academic lock-out the majority of women experienced then. But, Thurber bragged about having inherited his humorous intelligence from his mother. She was a trip. Once, she faked being a cripple and went to a revival and JUMPED up . . . HEALED . . . HALLELUJAH!! . . . just to have some wicked fun. : ) Her name was Mary. Thurber also wrote, "I think that maybe if women and children were in charge we would get somewhere".

That's funny. I agree in principle, although it's not exactly true we "know less" - from what I've seen here, women know a very great deal. Most of them anyway. Some of 'em couldn't find their way in out of the rain.

Any answer is either opinion or guess, because there is so much subject matter involved. One thing for sure: women (all women) have to be tougher in a lot of respects just to cope in this world. And, as a man, I say they do a hell of a job, at it.

We understand that most men have big sensitive egos and we are wise enough to let some men think they are wiser than us. lol

I think it is a generalization that is neither accurate nor can it be applied to any specific group of people.
