So the rich can rule the transplant world?
Sorry--I would rather see a liver go to someone who is dying and needs it to survive, not to the highest bidder.

This is not true. The way the list works is how sick are you and how bad do you need the transplant. My uncle needed a kidney and pancreas transplant. Fortunatly my mom gave him a kidney so we didn't have to wait on a list but then for the pancreas we had to wait. It's all about what the problem is, how long you have had it, your blood type, availability of the organ and how well your tissue and everything matches up with the donor.

So you believe that the rich are more important have have more rights than the poor?
A waiting list is not created on the financial status of a person in need. It is created so that there is no discrimination and the people that need the transplant first receive the donation first.

Interesting. Most of the people replying think you favor this and are against it while I think you cynically believe it is true in violation of what is supposed to be the case according to the rules where transplants, besides being matched medically are matched by timing of need - not money available.
Of course, in the US, there is the factor that the doctors and hospital are the ones submitting the request and it is far more likely that someone with money or insurance or both is going to in the hospital and be diagnosed than someone who is on charity.

Why should that be? So what you are saying is if someone that is dying right at that second but can't afford the operation shouldn't get it versus' someone who could live for another 2 years without the transplant?

No I do not think that just because you can pay for something your more deserving of medical care. There's no life greater than another. People with money arent more important than people without money.

There is no list for the rich and famous. Especially with kidneys. You can buy one of those from anyone. You can live your entire life with only one. I know. I took one from my aunt.

I live in Canada, so we don't pay to get better in general. People who need the organs the most urgently with the best chance of recovering should get them.

No! You are so selfish! Everyone deserves a chance to live a normal life, no matter their income.
