Slow down! You really need to know that 100% of the time if someone approaches you and says they're a talent scout you can tell them to take a hike. They likely work for John Robert Powers or some other scam company who wants your money, not to help you.
If you're auditioning for a musical the people you need to impress are the director and producer. Practice your song with your voice teacher. Make sure you are warming up properly every day and that you're eating healthily. Make sure you know the show you're auditioning for, that you know and understand the story and the character that you want and her place in the story. The same goes for your audition song (know the show it comes from and the character who sings it) so that you sing it in a way that will draw your audience in to you. Perform it, don't just sing it.
Dress appropriately. Bring dance shoes and attire if it says be prepared to move. Have your music ready and properly marked for the accompanist. Don't forget to nod to the accompanist when you're ready to start and thank them when you're finished.
As for 'the business' keep adding to your resume and stay in acting classes. Once you have several roles behind you, try adding student and indie folme. Check out backstage.com and actorsaccess.com. If those sites don't have much of anything for your area, try searching for your state's film commissions alliances, etc. Search for your state name and the word film and see what comes up. Search those sites for class and casting info. Backstage and actorsaccess are not free but are completely legit. If mom and dad are wary have them check into it further, look at my past answers, or message me for me info.
When you get that far, then you may be ready for an agent.
good luck!

Wow! Hannah! You sound just like me! I can already tell you that you are on the right track. It feels great to have a true passion for something you want to do in life, doesn't it? At that audition on Tuesday, you do the very best you can do! The #1 thing you have to remember is to BELIEVE in yourself. If you think you can, you CAN definitely do it! If talents scouts are there, they are in for a great audition!
Tips for Audition: If you have to do a cold reading (simply reading from the script) ask to look over it a few seconds before you go on. They will usually allow this. If they say no, just go right ahead and give your best reading. When you are saying your part, find a spot on the wall or in the distance, and look at that same spot whenever you are speaking or talking to that same character in your script. Don't look at the casting directors while doing your reading. Look at the character you are talking to that just so happens to be invisible to everyone else. ; )
Making acting your career: I really think you should pursue this! Not just because it's my career of choice, but because you seem to have a true passion for it! You won't truly be happy in any other career. (At least that's how I feel.) Though some actors do make it without one, it is essential that you get your education, and get all the experience you can while in school (school plays, drama classes, local theatre). Once you get some experience to put on an acting resume, type one up. Then look into getting headshots made. I suggest you do this with your parents. You should never go to an audition or photo shoot without enough information to know it is legit and without someone with you. Especially photo shoots!! Then if your parents allow you (because sometimes, unless it is in your city, acting requires you to travel, and you are still in school.), submit your headshot with your resume GLUED to the back (stapling it is so tacky) to a LEGIT casting agency that you have done plenty of research on. There are many people out there that are waiting to scam you out of your money! You should NEVER have to pay an agent upfront! They usually get 10- 15% of what you make from gigs THEY get you. If an agent is asking for money upfront, should should tell them no thank you and leave.
Hannah, I know you will make it! Never get discouraged! You already said that you know it will take a lot of effort and patience, and that is absolutely right! You have your head on straight. Keep believing in yourself, and you can do anything you want to do!
Good Luck!

You need to chill. Number one, I don't know where it is you are auditioning, but talent scouts (actually, I assume you are thinking of agents) only show up at MAJOR auditions for MAJOR shows, not at every two bit audition. Your chances of making the big time are very remote. You need to stay in school, join the drama club, try out for community theater, and that type of thing. Again, I don't know where this audition is (can't be Broadway so I would stop sweating it). No one here can mentor you and I have a flash for you. No one in the business is going to be your mentor unless it's an agent and only then if you are outstanding beyond belief. Again, stay in school, go to college and get a solid education, major in theater, then worry about it. Remember, you still have to support yourself one day so the education is key.

Relax, there are no talent scouts any longer. They disappeared with the Studio system of making movies. Continue doing everything you can where you are. If you and your parents will read my profile and they agree that I can advise you on your acting career, I willl mentor you for free. That is what I do. I have students all over the world. I can give you references if you need them. If you decide to use my service, write me at the aol address in my profile.

Well, slow down and take a deep breath. Yahoo Answers is not the place to get this kind of help. Support from family and friends is always best. If youi find a mentor on line don't use them. There are parasites all over the Internet just waiting to prey on someone just like you.
