My sister had a c-section with her first, vaginal with the other two, so I asked her about it.

Cons:

-A c-section is a MAJOR surgery. Things are going to be cut, moved around, and is going to take time to heal. Birth may be pain free, but when the medication wears off there will be pain.

-Most hospitals won't let you hold your infant until after you can move your toes, and they can take up to 6 hours. You can see the baby, but you are in recovery, the baby is in the nursery, not with you.

-Breastfeeding may be harder as it will be painful to try and position the infant in the right place because of the incision.

-Not everyone can bounce back after having a c-section, some take longer then others, while some can be walking around in a few days.

-Risk of infection or tearing open of the incision sight.

-Many doctors after having performed a c-section once, may want to repeat the process.

Pros:

-In the case of a medical emergency c-sections are life saving.

-If a woman is unable to give birth vaginally a c-section may help her have a child.

Those are the only pros I can think of.

(PS to the poster above..the whole vagina remains tight, it goes back to how it was after a vaginal birth as well, and if a woman tears, it can be even tighter, that is a common misconception that the vagina becomes loose)

I would say the only pro of a c/section is the pain free birth. Con-is the slow and long recovery.
Labour may be painful but once the baby is born it is over and done with. A c/section can be painful for weeks afterwards.

pros: sex is still "tight", she's awake during delivery with no pain, not too exhausted from 'pushing' to bond with baby....

cons: longer hospital stay, longer time to heal, slightly more pain (in recovery) than vaginal
