Uh, no. I think some names are dreadful, but as long as parents love their children and provide for their needs, I don't think choosing a so-called bad name should be grounds for jailing.
Plus, I like Gertrude. So you'd probably have to cart me to the slammer. :)

Not put in jail, but with all the odd names out there, perhaps, the child should be allowed to change their name legally at 16 or so.

My parents always joked that they were going to name me Gertrude when I was young, I like the name, I dont see whats wrong with it. Now, I knew a girl whos last name was hog and her first name was ima. Real story, that is cruel but no, I do not agree that America should be like germany and only allow certin names.

I guess it would be unfair to children, that they were not given a chance to choose their name that they want, They should implement some law, that for the meantime they should name this child temporarily and then when the child is already matured enough to choose it's name. That would be the time for them to change it legally. At least it would be fair enough for the child.

I REALLY don't like the name Gertude, but some people do. Yes, they should be slapped, lol, but not put in jail. I can think of a name worse than Gertude, and that's SLAYDE. That's HORRIBLE! I'm with you on the Slayde.
Now, for the people who name their kids stupid things on purpose should be shot and killed or hung. (Like the answer right below me) Urihnes Kendall Icy Eight Special K!

No. it's too much fun laughing at the bad names. Take for example: Urhines Kendall Icy Eight Special K.
This baby's name alone has given me so many chuckles.

No but parents need to exercise common sense when naming their kids.
There is an example of a young woman who was named (of all things) "Latrina." Another couple wanted to name their daughter "4Real." A couple in Sweden wanted to name their daughter "Metallica" after the rock band.
That name is going to stick with that kid for the rest of his/her life. When that kid starts school, there's going to be a good chance that he/she will be picked on because of his/her name.
If you want to be unique with your child's name, by all means do so, but please be realistic.
In my opinion, I'm more fond of "old-fashioned" names like Victoria, Elizabeth, Henry, William, John, etc. but I do like the name Maxwell for a boy so he'll be known as Max.
Other bad names:
Markese
Shajuan (pronounced SHA-WAN)
Jaxon
Moon Unit (she can thank her dad, Frank Zappa, for that one)
Pilot Inspekktor (Jason Lee's kid)
Promise
La Quetta

yes!! (not really)
I also think there should be a law against people buying really ill fitting clothing. I work in a bar and it is the law that I do not have to serve someone alcohol if they are already intoxicated, so surely a sales assistant should reserve the right to refuse to sell clothing to people, if not for the good of the customer, then for the rest of us who have to look at them!!! ha ha
