yes, if a parent names there child Helen Zass then all through there adulthood people are there making Jokes until they have finally had enough and change there name . It would suck to have that name.
EDIT:
Well yeah i know some people who have dorky names and are kinda dorks and then people with cool names are cool too. I guess its just luck why that happens. =)

It has some effect. If you are named after a living family member such as a parent, you identify with them and compare yourself to them. It is the same if you are named after a Bible character or historical or fictional character. My sister and I have French names, but very little French ancestry. I have always thought it was because my father, who named us wanted us to be fashionable and a little mysterious. I named my children common names because I wanted them to identify with their peers, not be standoffish or feel that they were better than other people.
Nevertheless, if a person is uncomfortable with the name they were given, they can create a new vision of what that name means and be that new better person.
How would you feel if you had a name that was difficult to pronounce or spell? I think that makes a difference.

Definitely.
I went to school (in the eighties) with a kid called Adolf. Poor guy, he was always given hell about it.
On the other hand a friend's brother was called Zeus (after the Greek god) and he was the most egotistical a$#hole you've ever met.
So yes, I think it can be a positve or a negative consequence, but only if parents stray from the norm when naming their kids.

Depends on how silly of a name your parents give you. I'm not sure what some people are thinking when they come up with these names. But yes it can affect you as you get older.

No...It's not always like that...Ulysses S. Grant...Kids called him useless...He became president....I think it is all in the person's mind set. Although There are people out there with unflattering names...I believe people who have a good self esteem do well in spite of an atrocious name...Or they can always change their name or go by a nickname if the sound of their name is holding them back in life.

to some extent i suppose it does.
but then a person becomes what they want, and work towards (most times) not necessarily what their name dictates.
the meaning of our names is very important. Sometimes it's relevant to who we are, but not always. Most people name their children whatever sounds 'nice' or 'pretty' without ever looking into the meaning of the name. I think the meaning is so much more important. Who care's if your kid's name sounds pretty but it means "one who sleeps around" ? ROFL, ya know? I'd rather have a dorky name that means something great, then a cool name that means something lousy!!
As it is, my first name is very common; but lucky for me it both sounds nice AND means something great!
Lucky for me i suppose, IDK yet! rofl. But i like my first name.

It does seem like some people with the same names do act similar. That's one of the reasons we tried to find a more uncommon name for our daughter.

Yes if its a really strange name. A kid named Harry Dick for example might have a rough time. Any normal name doesn't seem to make a difference.

yes!
not in big ways, but my first name seems to bring people to sing a couple of famous songs that have my name in them.
my last name is the name of a mega-recognizable person, and lots of people makes references to it!
it has just led to conversations that I might not have otherwise as well as perspectives on human nature!

I've never liked my first name, but I don't think it's had any effect on how I've lived my life. I can imagine some people who endure endless torment around their names might have issues, but it's just a name.
