Maybe they were all born old. "Old souls" have a built in understanding of the world and are able to immediately cope .
Who knows what the real reason is. Sometimes a child will show wisdom, maturity over a bunch of adults who may be hysterical, or scared.

First be honest with yourself. That way you can learn to trust yourself and your abilities. If you know yourself well then you know when you can do things alone and when others are needed to assist you. Also keep in mind that just because you can do something by yourself doesn't mean it's better that way.
That maturity reminds of that old prayer a lot of senior citizens have on their walls;
Lord help me to accept the things I cannot change, grant me the strength to change the things I can (presumably for the better) and the Wisdom to know the difference.
Of course don't mistake acceptance of things as the same as being spineless. Doormats are not mature, just door mats.

Not necessarily.
Sometimes it's a matter of circumstance that "nudges" one to be self-reliant.
I don't think that self-reliance equates with maturity, rather they (individuals) just want certain things to be done the way they see fit or because they're aware that if they don't take care of matters... noone else is going to do it for them.

Get a good education which will put you in the right direction of getting not only a well paying job, but one you will enjoy as well.
And you are never too old too do this...my sister, who was 41 at the time, took out government loans to get a College Degree in teaching, and now she is a kindergarten teacher, and she enjoys her job galore.

Obviously, you need to learn how to do things urself... don't rely on others for things u know u can do. It is always good to be able to do things urself and be proud of your accomplishments. Learn to organize your time and put things in order. Self help is self improvement in many ways. It can boost your self esteem and others will appreciateyou more.
