Sorry I guess I should have mentioned that it's a small bylaw infraction smaller than a parking ticket and I live in Canada so I have no intention of leaving town in fact I intend to go but I think it will be thrown out.

I am not to sure? but it seems that if it says you are suppossed to show up in 2020 than you should follow the directions in the summons,Right?

You got papers to go to court and you want to mess around with the date? You are aware that just because you don't show up does not mean the whole thing goes away. If it's civil - they can have the proceeding without you (pretty sure you're going to lose if you are not there). If it's criminal there can be repercussions there as well.

Call the clerk of court and confirm the date and time of the court hearing and get your fanny there.

The best idea would be to call the contact number and inform them. Some small clerical error like that would not be enough to save you when you don't show.

The most obvious way of knowing you should go is that you already know it's this year. If you rightly know it isn't in 2020 why are you asking?

Is that really a chance you want to take with the law? (Check with me again on one of my smart@$$ days -- I'll tell ya to move out of state and see what happens between now and 2020.)

If you don't and they try to use that as a reason you may face penalties
