what is it? Its about 3inches and its long and relatively thick, white yellow and orange with tan colored dots all over back and sides. It also has long whisker looking things, also semi agressive it seems (I put it in solitary)

I would say it's either a catfish (most likely) or some kind koi but besides that I am not 100% sure...

Perhaps it's a Koi? They come in a variation of colors, but here's a picture of two of their ''faces''. Does your look this way?

Why don't you go back to where you got it and look at the tank and if there's not label on the tank ask.

it sounds like it could be a cichlid, or a corydora cat fish.
