Get one with a timer, that way if you fall alseep it automatically shuts off after so many minutes.

The one I have, I have to hold down the lever or it cools off.
So maybe if you do have one, it is the same. I've fallen asleep
in the past many times when I had it behind my back. And it
didn't cause any problems. It's if they stay on and get overheated that you can have a fire hazard if there would be
any cracks in the rubber around the coils. If the wires are
exposed, in other words.

Don't use one get a bag of rice to heat in the microwave. Heat for 3 minutes then put in the bed, it cools rather than gets hotter so you never get burnt.

Wear an undergarmint - wheneer I fall asleep I leak, and the dampness wakes me right back up.

You can either set an alarm or get one of the nowfangled ones that turn themselves off after an hour or so.
