Will a vector at 45 degrees to the horizontal be larger or smaller than its horizontal and vertical components ? By how much ? Explain why please !

It will be larger. In fact -any- vector will have a greater magnitude that its individual components. Remember Pythagoras? a²+b²=c²

To get the components you have to multiply by sin 45o or cos 45

Any sin or cos is less than 1 in its absolute value, unless the angle is 0, 90, 180, 270

So, if you multiply by a number that is less than 1, the result is less than the vector
