How much jail time should the mother get?

About the same as a woman who miscarries. If people are going to say an abortion is murder then a miscarry is manslaughter.

Woody Woodburn - I would read your own answer to question before criticizing other peoples.
No to clarify. A fetus at point of abortion is not self sustaining meaning in biological terms it is not considered life. The point is that most people who scream it is murder give such a poor description of what life is that even a cancerous tumor falls under there definition. If you took you head out of a bible and read so text book you would see that a first trimester abortion should not be classified as murder.

Abortion is not illegal...and a mother should get NO jail time for having one because it is not a crime.

I would say the same amount of jail time as someone who commits manslaughter. The best way to fight abortion is to make it more affordable for Lower class Americans to live. Most people I know that have had one did so out of fear that they would not be able to support the child. Its also a decision that has haunted everyone i know whos had one.

i think it should be made illegal as a means of getting rid of a 'problem'. don't want a kid, then do the right thing and practice safe sex in the first place. it makes sense to do that doesn't it now? abortion is murder. i know it may sound harsh and all, but i think the mother should get life in jail because abortion is murder.

I'm sure you realize that it's not actually illegal and you are just asking a hypothetical question...
Personally, I think the doctors should get jail time, not necessarily the mothers. Most women don't know what exactly is going on when they have an abortion, and/or they are in a very difficult situation and are desperate. A doctor who performs an abortion knows exactly what he's doing -- he knows it's not a "clump of cells" and he's also not emotionally involved in the unplanned pregnancy. He is the one who is truly the perpetrator of the crime (if it were a crime), IMO.

Abortion is not illegal and i dont think it should be. You dont understand the situation that some of these women are in and you shouldnt judge them if you dont know their story. I am not against or for abortion but think its up to the person to make that choice, as sad as it is. There are already so many babies born into unloving, unstable and abusive families and by making abortion illegal will just allow this to increase. If these people can not abort their pregnancy we would probably see more children found in suitcases dumped in lakes. I think teens need to be more educated on birth control and safe sex, i also feel that parents need to inforce this. As much as parents dont want to think of their children having sex at any age the fact is its going to happen regardless and its better to encourage safe sex rather than live in a fantasy world that your children wont do those things.

i like the answer that the doctor should get jail time but if no doctors did it they would do it them selves or get it done unsafely. i do no believe anyone should use abortion. dont have sex if you can handle it. i think they should be punished. I am in Canada and it makes me mad that the goverment pays for it. I think the goverment should not payfor it the parents of the unborn baby should.

unfortunately, no it is not illegal! I do on the other hand say it is NO different than killing a person standing before me. An unborn child is more help less. ITS NOT BORN. If you know some one about to get it done try to talk them outof it and talk her into better alternatives. Like adoption! Their are so many families that would love to have babies, but cant!

Well, abortion is not illegal and should never be made illegal so this is a pointless question. Why should you judge a woman who's had to make such a difficult decision in the first place?
