The tongue is an organ made up of different kinds of tissues which are colonies of different kinds of cells. The different regions of the tongues surface have specialized into doing different jobs, which means that the different regions are made up of different kinds of cells. Some are capable of acting as receptors for different stimuli such as taste, pressure or even touch.
