cant get the door latch off a 1997 cavalier?

i got it all apart but cant get the rods off is there a special tool to do that plise help

There are little spring steel sliding clips that hold the rods onto the latch arms....the rods have a small groove on the end of them that engages a slotted hole in the clip....try bending open the slot with a small screwdriver where the rod slides through to release it. Rebend the slot back closed to install the rod again unless you're getting new ones. A new latch should come with the clips so you can look at one to see how they clip onto the rods.
