I am protestant and my fiance is Catholic. I am divorced, he has never married. I am unable to have any more children (I have one daughter who is 14 and also protestant). I REFUSE to get my 1st marriage annulled by the Catholic church, so they will not marry us or "bless" our marriage if we are married by another minister or district justice. My fiance does not care and would rather be married by our friends father who is a Methodist minister than the district justice. HIS MOTHER IS NOT HAPPY because we can't get our marriage blessed.
BTW, I am 40 and my fiance is 39!! What's the deal?!?!?

You are not marrying the mother-in-law. If your fiance' is comfortable with a Methodist wedding, and you love him, and you are willing to either deal with or win over the mother, then go for it. How does your daughter feel? At fourteen, her feelings and position are still very critical. If he treats her with respect, and you have talked to her and included her in the process, then things should be fine. And I don't mean letting her make the decision. That's up to you and Mr. Right. But she needs to not feel like a left over. The last thing, if he is a momma's boy, I would take a long look and possibly extend the engagement. Never, never go into a relationship thinking you can change the other person after they're married. Never works. I do wish you the best. You sound like a smart lady. peace

Would your Mother freak out if you married in the Catholic Church? This is not HIS MOTHER'S MARRIAGE. She did hers her own way...I did mine my own way and GOD IS THE ONLY ONE YOU TWO HAVE TO ANSWER TO. RIGHT? His Mother needs to take a chill pill. Was she married in the Catholic Church? Just make your vows and your marriage right with God...not faiths. And I thought the Catholic Church cooled that heavy rulings off a bit?
Does that help?
