I want to read a monologue from the vagina monologues for my audition at Juilliard but I'm not sure if its realy consitered a play. They said it had to be from a play and not a mono. book. It is a play but it is also just like reading a mono book outload. It is my best mono and I have gotten crazy good results form it. What do you think. Can I read it? Thanks for the imput.

I have to read 1 modern and one classic, so Shakespeare will be one. I also have to have 2 back up. 1 modern and 1 classic. could I use it for a back up if they ask to hear more?

It is a play, but probably overdone these days. You dont read a monologue for your audition, you perform it. Break a leg, Doc

It is a play...it's a play made up of monologues. Your auditioners simply want to make sure you're doing a piece of real theatre, not those fake books they market to teens where the monologues come without any context around them.

Yes, it's done a lot, but if you have one that works really well for you that's more important.

No, you can't read it. It must be memorized and fully staged.

Are you getting some assistance with this audition? Juillard is tough. Don't go unprepared. Find a theatre teacher or director to help you get ready. You need professional coaching if you're going to be competetive with the other great actors who are going to be auditioning for a few very spots. Not trying to scare you--just want you to be realistic about this--the fact that you are asking these types of questions suggests that you may not be ready yet.

Get some help, rehearse to the point where you feel overprepared...and break a leg!

It is a MONOLOGUE. I'd pick another, if I were you. I would think that a reading from Shakespear would be a safe thing to do, provided you like Shakespear and can read it convincingly.

BTW, the vagina monologues were great. I rented it as a DVD. I live waaaayyyy out in the country without a chance of seeing it live.

Yes, this is a good audition piece, but if I were you I'd stay in the boundary lines due to the fact that if I were you I'd love to get into Julliard, and something silly to goof that up so you have to wait a year, should not be something that you are already somewhat aware of.
