i actually disagree with most people, and im gonna say get brown tack. in hunter shows, there is a strict standard of what people think u should wear and your horse should have. for example, at some shows something as minor as unpainted hooves can lose you the class. judges DO take into account your appearance.
tho there are some exceptions, like at local shows they are more lax about it. my friend won a division at a local show, and she was wearing jeans, a t-shirt, and half chaps [she wasnt expecting to show that day lol].

so i think maybe a dark brown saddle and bridle would be more appropriate for showing. if u really want black tack [which does look good on your horse] maybe invest in some wintec saddles for schooling- they are cheap so u wont waste money on just a schooling saddle. i think they also sell bridles.

cute horse, btw :]

He's beautiful. My opinion is that he will look great in either all black tack, like you're thinking of purchasing, or a nice dark brown as well. He does have some brown lights in his coat, as seen in the indoors pic you posted. That will pick up the brown of the saddle, and he'll look gorgeous. But your choice of all black is also classy and different, so go with whatever you choose. Good luck.

Id go with black. I have been taking hunter/jumping for 3 years and yes brown is the usuall color but black will make him Pop! He is a beauty! Almost like my horseSir Britz who is a 3 year old Arabian! Here is a picture of him!

Both colors are pretty but I like the browns more in English tack. Go with brown! And maybe it will draw less heat since it gets so hot there!

Black would look nice, unless where you show has tack requirments.

Last photo: Snaffle bit, use 2 hands, he's "over the bit" collected. Forehead should be perpendicular to the ground.

Let GO of the saddle horn.

Feet forward (at girth/cinch, not behind it unless giving a cue) heels down, better ballance.

Superior! you're looking ahead not down at his head. Nice horse.

I think black would be perfect, tho some people think that you cant show high with black tack, That is wrong, i know a girl that shows all over the USA and she has a black saddle!!!

i noticed how maddie said to use a helmet...it would be smart, but its your life not mine!!

if you are showing hunter/jumper you really should get brown tack, it tradition and when it comes down to two perfect rides, they get specific and annoying and might pick the person with brown tack. Also, some judges might just mark you down because it isn't brown. they're are very annoying sometimes /=

but, i personally love the way grey horses look in really light brown tack, like this.

good luck!

first off, i want your horse haha absolutely gorgeous. but anyway, brown is traditional and unfortunatly in the hunter jumper world, doing what everyone else does is whats accepted. the more money you spend, the better for hunter/jumper tack. i know it sucks. but buying a few great pieces of tack is worth while.

this is what i have and i show on the A and AA circuit in working hunters and jumpers:

umm i've been blessed with a generous dad so look for some quality used tack. just as good just broken in for you!

Your boy is very beautiful :)
You can never go wrong with black tack. And it looks fine on him. Brown would upset his contrast whereas black brings out his color and makes him stand out. Kinda like the trim when painting a room.
