they don't care or they really don't know the difference. They are saying that kids today are having more trouble with spelling words because of the short cuts taken for texting.

They are homonyms , meaning words whose pronunciation is similar but have different spelling and different meaning. Other similar use of the wrong word would be in then/than, lose/loose, wear/ware, there/their, etc.
Today, the advent of IM and SMS has made people use short cuts so that they send more information in a shorter time. Also, lack of discipline in teaching and learning of proper spelling in schools contributes to such errors. I think in the next 50 years or so, this type of writing the wrong word would become a part of accepted written English, since today's children become tomorrow's teachers. I am glad I won't be alive at that time!

You're asking a very good question. Your guess is as good as mine! Maybe they never learned proper English in school, or maybe they just don't care. You're going to get a lot of confused people responding to your question I bet. OK, you're probably getting tired of reading this, so I'll stop typing so you can go read your other responses... :-)

It drives ME crazy also.
What is worse, is all the people who wnat to "loose" "alot" of weight.
These kids will be running this world in 10-15 years.
THAT fact is the scariest thing of all!

Ignorance, laziness, or lack of respect for their readers. Possibly all three. A sign of our times, "near enough is good enough".

Either they don't know the difference between "you're" and "your" or it doesn't matter much to them. Or it could be just a typo, you never know.

I am so glad that I am not the only one who wonders when illiteracy became cool.
Thank you. I was getting scared.

It bugs me. Another common error on here is "loose" for "lose." Also, "staff" for staph infection.
