there are alot of way's to do what you want.
to make it tighter you can one reset the tightness or play in your steering wheel.
by an adjustment right on the steering box, its on the top and has a 3/4"nut with what looks like and large flat head screw in the middle of the nut, back the nut off just a little and tighten the screw down a 1/2 turn at a time, and try it out tell you get the play out of the wheel.
also look make sure the tie rod ends, ball joints, drag link, idler arm and pitman arm are all in good shape, and greased, also look at the control arm bushings for play and ware, any one of those can make play in the wheel.
and you can get a new steering box with a tighter steering ratio, TRW, MOOG, RUSSELL, SUMMIT just to name a few all have steering gear box that bolt right up with way tighter steering ratio's, and all have em in both power and manual steering box's
and all that i just said will help with making it easier as well, but one more thing you can do to make the steering easier and that's change the pulley to a smaller pulley, by increasing the RPM of the pump you'll increase the ease of your steering wheel.
and just one more thing and no one does this and should change the fluid in the power steering if you have power steering

It sounds like normal wear might be getting the best of ya. Does the steering wheel move a lot when you are stopped(with the engine off) and wiggling the wheel like your trying to weave back and forth down the road? If you can easily wiggle it more than an inch or so, then you can get a lot more control over your car if you adjust the steering gearbox clearances. It is common for these older gearboxes to become worn and loose with age and the gearbox might be loose where it bolts to the frame or the pitman arm maybe loose where it bolts to the steering box. You can check all this and it won't cost you a thing! Also look under the hood and check the flexible rubber drive joint that connects the steering column to the steering box. They deteriorate with splashed oil and age and introduce lots of freeplay into the steering. Get a friend to help you. Have them weavewiggle the steering wheel while you look around. Happy Hunting.

Grease the ball joints and the tie rod ends, and make sure the linkage is adjusted correctly. Is it power or regular steering? If it's power steering maybe there's air in the line. If it's regular steering the grease will make it easier.
Good luck.

There's is an adjustment set screw on the steering box. This might help. Only let a trained tech who knows what they are doing to handle this adjustment.

I recently bought a 67 gtx...It had the same problem...I had to replace the ball joints....It was still a little sloppy....Then I adjusted the steering box!!!Now it,s cool!!!!The sterring box adjustment is free...The ball joints about 250 bucks and you install....You,ll just have to take it in for a wheel alignment...

steering linkage could be wore out also. I replaced center link, inner tie rods, outer tie rods and tie rod links. Also replaced idler arm. Costs @$150 for all. Really could tell big difference with those new parts on.
