If yes... do people tell you you're really good or do you just think your sketches/paintings/etc look really good?

I have been told that I was good since I was a small child. This feedback has encouraged me to continue to develop my talent. It is an ongoing process and I still tell people that I am a "work in progress."

If I stop working at any aspect of my skills, the work looks stiff and stale. I "practice" my art, the same as a musician practices his.

I consider myself a good student. I've been drawing sense I could hold a pencil but I didn't really understand what I was doing. I was just making pretty things. I've been formally training for the past 2 1/2 years and what I have learned is that I have allot to learn. I don't think I'll ever be good enough to satisfy myself, because becoming satisfied means settling. Once someone is satisfied they no longer want to learn.
If someone wants me to draw or pain their portrait- I could, and most people would think it was great, but I hope there will always be a part of me that knows I could do better, and strives to do better. That's what makes a true artist.

Eh, I'm alright I guess. I just do what I do. I never worried about being a great artist or the best or whatever. I just wanted to do what I want to do and if others dug it cool and if not that was cool too. People have told me I'm really good at what I do so I musn't suck. People liking what I do and thinking I was good at it was never a priority to me just doing the best I could to prove I could do it did.

I've been doing this for over thirty years and to be honest I'm still learning and trying new things.

>Gypsy blushes and shuffles her feet< Well, yeahhhh, actually I am >Sheepish grin<
I actually can't recall a time when I wasn't drawing and/or painting; my mom used to say I was born with a pencil in my hand. I used to win all kinds of art awards in school which made me so self-conscious; I hated being singled out for attention!
I think it must be hereditary, because my sister and daughter both are artistically talented, though not quite so much as I am. I can reproduce absolutely any image either in pencil or acrylic; one of my favorite things to do is replicas of antique advertisements. (I painted a huge one on our barn.)
I've had endless art lessons as a child, but the ability is natural; my parents got me those lessons because I already was talented in this area. I used to get in arguments with my HS art teacher, who claimed someone could be "taught" to draw---I say, no way! It's either there or it ain't :)

Edit: Misty---is there any END to the things we have in common, GF!!! :)

To you young 'uns....get those drawings out of the closet and start showing them to people! :)

I like my artwork. I consider myself a pretty good artist.

I never show my artwork to other people, it just piles up in the closet.

I'll show some pictures if anyone actually cares. It's weird stuff.

I keep my poems (I don't draw, I write - hope that's not a problem) for myself, it keeps my soul warm during lonely nights and makes me feel proud of myself even though nobody else reads it. I wouldn't want it to be criticized and that's why I protect my little babies from the outside world... Damn, that's sounds so pathetic now that I'm looking at it!

If you consider Photography a type of art, then yes, I am good.
People tell me I am- but I don't particularly agree with them.

For my age (16), I'd say I'm good.

I'm no Da Vinci, but people have told me I'm good.
