I'm interested in how everyone else is. My male friend (in another part of the country), says that he has never had a female friend without "messing around" with them.
Myself, I have more best friends that are guys for some reason.

Yes, you can, but honesty is the most important thing about any relationship. If you both intend to be only friends, then say so up front. Agree that if either of you think different later, that you will talk about it as friends and not "ambush" the other.
Most of my best friends have been of the opposite sex with nothing sexual ever happening. I think a good mix of male/female friendship keeps things more balanced than having friends of only the same sex.

It is possible, but usually for me there is a large age difference, or they are physically unattractive to me.
However, just because I may have feelings and attraction towards most of my female friends that doesn't mean that I mess around with them. Good friends are worth more than a good lay, and it usually isn't worth risking the friendship for the pleasure.

Sure, I would never mess around with one of my best friends who happens to be a guy. It's perfectly normal to have be just friends with people of the opposite sex. On the other hand, it's not normal to not be able to have friendships with people of the opposite sex just because you keep "messing around" with them. I think your friend tries to be a macho man and wants to impress you with his statement... And he might also be coming on to you...

i think of there is often some form of attraction in all friendship, it would not would desire to be sexual attraction. i discover maximum of my guy friends eye-catching, as in stable looking. yet, i don't have a weigh down on any of them.
